Alaska and Hawaiian have laid out all six Atmos Rewards Communities in one guide: pick exactly one, it costs nothing, and each comes with its own perks and a 10,000-point bonus challenge. Most of them are a 20% discount on Unlocked experiences and a pile of 'flight deals.' Two have real earning value, and it's worth knowing which before you click.
What's actually new
Atmos Rewards members can now join one of six free Communities: Huakaʻi by Hawaiian, Club 49, Global Locals, Culinary Journeys, Families on the Go and Active Escapes. You get one at a time, picked at sign-up or via 'Join a Community' once you're signed in. You can switch once per calendar year, and if you've already picked one this year, the switch window opens in the new year. Alaska also published a six-question quiz to help you choose, though it doesn't explain how your answers map to a Community.
The two that matter outside the islands
Global Locals is open to any member and gives a 10% status point multiplier on flights that start or end outside the U.S., award flights included. It also gives one status point per 25 points you transfer into Atmos Rewards from eligible partners. That second one is the interesting bit for points people, since transferring currency normally earns no status at all. Families on the Go, also open to anyone, returns 20% of the points on kids' award tickets (children 12 and under) after the trip, across Alaska, Hawaiian and partner airlines. Free is free, so if either describes you, join today.
The residents-only ones
Huakaʻi requires a Hawaiʻi mailing address and Club 49 requires an Alaska one. Huakaʻi members earn 50% more points and status points on inter-island flights starting January 1, 2027, plus two free checked bags on Neighbor Island flights. Club 49 members get two free bags on Alaska or Hawaiian flights to or from Alaska, and three on flights entirely within the state, covering everyone on the reservation. Good stuff, but you need the right zip code.
The filler
Culinary Journeys and Active Escapes are basically the shared baseline: quarterly flight deals, 20% off Unlocked experiences, unnamed partner offers and a bonus challenge. Every Community gets that baseline. The challenge pays up to 10,000 bonus points and status points for flying to about 10 themed destinations, but the guide doesn't give deadlines, whether it stacks with other offers, or how deal schedules work. The Club 49 flight and cargo discounts have no stated amounts either.
Is it worth caring about?
Yes, for about two minutes. It costs nothing, and the Global Locals transfer-for-status rule is the sort of thing that quietly changes how you route points. Just remember you're locked in for the calendar year, so choose deliberately, and watch for the fine print on the bonus challenges before flying anywhere for them.
Confirmed directly on Alaska Airlines' own newsroom announcement, 'Atmos Rewards 101: A member's guide to finding the right Community,' dated October 22, 2026.
