American Express has updated its Platinum lodging credit terms: starting January 1, 2027, prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts bookings need a minimum two-night stay to count toward the $300 semi-annual hotel credit. If you've been squeezing the credit out of a single splurge night, that window is closing.
What actually changed
Amex's own lodging credit page now states that, effective January 1, 2027, Fine Hotels + Resorts bookings will require a minimum two-night stay to be eligible for the credit. The credit itself hasn't shrunk: U.S. Consumer and Business Platinum cardholders still get up to $300 per half-year, up to $600 per calendar year, on prepaid bookings made through Amex Travel.
Who this actually hurts
Anyone who has been using the credit as a one-night, 'I'll just burn $300 on a nice room' perk at an FHR property. The Hotel Collection and Airbnb Luxe bookings already carried a two-night minimum on that same page, so FHR was the loophole, and now it's closing. If you already plan multi-night stays, you won't notice a thing. If your strategy was a single overnight to hit the credit, you now have to either stay longer or change where you spend it.
The Airbnb Luxe angle
The same page lists prepaid Airbnb Luxe bookings, made through Amextravel.com or the Amex Travel App, as eligible for the credit, also with a two-night minimum. That gives people who don't love hotels another way to use the money. Whether that's a good swap depends on whether Airbnb Luxe has anything you actually want near where you're going, which is a bigger question than a statement credit.
What's confirmed and what isn't
The two-night requirement, the January 1, 2027 effective date and the Airbnb Luxe eligibility are all stated on Amex's page. Community chatter also mentions a separate Airbnb Experiences credit, but we could not find that on the page we checked, so we're not treating it as confirmed. Prepaid bookings through Amex Travel are what count; pay-later and pay-at-hotel reservations don't.
Should you care?
If you're a Platinum holder, if you want a single-night FHR stay, book and take it under the current terms, ahead of the January 1 change. After that, plan two nights or look at the alternatives. It's a quiet tightening, not a devaluation of the credit's dollar value, but it makes the perk less flexible.
Confirmed directly on American Express's own Platinum lodging credit page.
